Life is meant to be enjoyed and to be adventurous. Today, I’m going to share with you little tips I’ve picked up from traveling that you can apply to your life to experience more joy! I’m going to go over five tips I learned about life from traveling to over 60 countries.
Part of my journey of healing after I was in two consecutive accidents and had all these injuries was that after a few years, I started traveling the world and studying with different healers, doctors and leaders and learning their strategies.
The tips that I learned while traveling can be applied to life and many situations you’ll go through.
#1. Be flexible and adaptable. This really applies to multiple levels of life. I always look at this since something that I teach is advanced communication skills. The best communicators are the most flexible and adaptable in every situation.
Being flexible and adaptable no matter what’s going on in front of you and also meeting people where they’re at. Being able to see things in different lenses and filters, being able to put yourself in other people’s shoes, and being able to adapt and be flexible to different communication styles and cultures.
Also, be able to go with the flow. I think this is a big skill set and that’s a huge tip that I learned.
#2. Experience is better than reading a book or a blog or being on the internet. Experiencing life is most important and at the end of our life, I don’t think we’re going to be looking back at our life and think, “What did I regret?”. I think the main thing that we’re going to be thinking about is, “Did I have an experience of being alive and what that experience is?”.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m an avid reader. I read a lot of books. I think knowledge is a big thing and to have knowledge from books. But there’s wisdom that comes from experience and to get out there, to be in that present moment and to really experience that first handedly is so important.
#3. We are all similar. I know we spend all this time trying to differentiate ourselves but at the end of the day, there’s seven and a half billion people on this planet and we are all similar.
We all want love, joy, happiness and peace. We want the best for our family, and our friends. We want to have an amazing career and work. We want to have a fulfilling life. So to me when we think we’re so different from other people and cultures, we all actually have these core things that we want in life. Just remember that.
#4. Keep an open mind. Open mindedness is really important. Part of this is also being a student for life and having that curiosity and wonder. Taking things to the next level with your curiosity and to want to learn constantly.
This is something that I allow myself to do. I think everyone has that inner curiosity and imagination. The beginning steps of being creative is to have an open mind. It’s also getting out of your comfort zone. It’s being comfortable with the uncomfortable but it’s also being uncomfortable in the unknown. It’s being okay with that and being completely comfortable because a lot of times we want control.
We actually limit ourselves and we’re caged or in this box. What is it to start exploring and being outside the box, being comfortable with that? It starts with having an open mind.
Also, part of this is to feel home wherever you go. This is a concept that on an internal level. I just feel comfortable wherever I go even when I don’t know. It’s how can you flow with that and any place you go you feel like you’re at home. This starts with having an open mind.
#5. Pack light and no clutter. Traveling so much taught me to be a minimalist. When you break it down and think about it, it’s about attachments and how attached are you to things.
When we’re so attached to all these things, we’re not experiencing the present moment. I learned even if I’m traveling for three weeks now I usually only have a carry on.
The second element here is how can we take clutter outside of our life, in our homes, in our office and things like that. The clutter dampers us from having that present experience.
What can we do to simplify? Keeping things simple. Less is more.
